Protestant Reformation Essays -- essays research papers

PROTESTANT REFORMATION: A MENTOR TO CHRISTIAN CIVILIZATION      When we talk about Protestant Reformation, what as a rule strikes a chord is a development that realized negative impacts in Europe as well as in the entire Catholic Church, which are as yet being felt and experienced even today. Despite the fact that the facts may prove that the Protestant Reformation had been one of the reasons for the steady decrease of the Catholic Church during the sixteenth century, it additionally achieved various commitments in the advancement of the Catholic Church as well as the entire Christian Civilization too. It was through the foundation of these Protestant Churches that the Catholic Church began investigating and looking at well what was befalling the Catholic confidence. It started to see the blemishes and inadequacies of its Church and began to fix and discover answers for the developing clashes and issues inside and outside the Catholic Church and its kin. One significant exercise that Christian Civ ilization could gain from the occasions of the Protestant Reformation is that to never set out to savagery in attempting to settle debates and contrasts among individuals and to never permit ourselves to be affected by wrong thought processes (more for our own egotistical advantages) in our interest for the "greater good". Indeed, even up to the current occasions, we can consider the Protestant Reformation an incredible commitment and impact in the development of what we know now as Christi...

As per Adam Thierer, the State authorities, the Attorney General and the Federal delegates are in the fore-front attempting to direct the way toward promoting and business showcasing. Many overseeing activities are being proposed while some are as of now in real life. Adam Thierer makes reference to that these overseeing rules will antagonistically influence or decrease the procedure of business publicizing or showcasing on a few stages. The normal effect of this decrease in publicizing and promoting are the immediate and circuitous damage to the shopper government assistance, and the fundamental driver is on the grounds that most purchasers; people, the network and society all in all, rely upon business discourse for their separate image of items (Clow, Kenneth and Donald Baack, 67). As indicated by Adam Thierer, influenced stages contain a portion of the good old media, which itself incorporates Radio and TV supporters and the papers. Other influenced stages incorporate the fresh out of the plastic new news sources which includes online systems, web, informal communities, cell phones, computer games and some agreeable TVs. This expanded overseeing activism would come without hesitation comparable to items and issues like liquor, tobacco, pharmaceuticals, children’s advertisements internet publicizing, during the children’s TV programs, the adequacy of promotions on TVs, item tributes and the item commitment promoting. Conceivably, the most unmistakable exertion of these overseeing rules is the most recent push to authorize an administrative framework on information assortment and internet promoting (Gifford and Clive, 37). In the sixteenth and seventeenth hundreds of years, the â€eth third-individual solitary action word finishing (e.g., followeth, thinketh) started to cease to exist, however some regular constrictions of these structures (e.g., hath for haveth, doth for doeth) endured into the late seventeenth century. By the by, there is an apparently odd, restricting improvement whereby a few Scots scholars right now embraced the in any case declining southern - (e)th (for example she helpeth), holding it directly into the seventeenth century. A closer assessment of the corpus information shows t hat a significant number of the action words with - (e)th, truth be told, have a stem finishing in a sibilant sound, as ariseth, causeth, increaseth, produceth. Argument Structure in English Grammar

The word argument in  linguistics  does not have the same meaning as that word in common usage. When used in relation to grammar and writing, an argument is any expression or syntactic element in a sentence that serves to complete the meaning of the verb. In other words, it expands on whats being expressed by the verb and is not a term that implies controversy, as common usage does. Read about the more traditional sense of argument as a rhetorical term  here. In English, a verb typically requires from one to three arguments. The number of arguments required by a verb is the valency of that verb. In addition to the predicate and its arguments, a sentence may contain optional elements called adjuncts. According to Kenneth L. Hale and Samuel Jay Keyser in 2002s Prolegomenon to a Theory of Argument Structure,  argument structure is determined by properties of lexical items, in particular, by the syntactic configurations in which they must appear.   Examples and Observations on Argument Structure Verbs are the glue that holds clauses together. As elements that encode events, verbs are associated with a core set of semantic participants that take part in the event. Some of a verbs semantic participants, although not necessarily all, are mapped to roles that are syntactically relevant in the clause, such as subject or direct object; these are the arguments of the verb. For example, in John kicked the ball, John and the ball are semantic participants of the verb kick, and they are also its core syntactic arguments — the subject and the direct object, respectively. Another semantic participant, foot, is also understood, but it is not an argument; rather, it is incorporated directly into the meaning of the verb. The array of participants associated with verbs and other predicates, and how these participants are mapped to syntax, are the focus of the study of argument structure. —  Melissa Bowerman and Penelope Brown, Crosslinguistic Perspectives on Argument Structure: Implications for Learnability (2008)Arguments in Construction GrammarEach part of a complex construction has a relation to some other part of the construction in construction grammar. The relations between parts of a construction are all cast in terms of predicate-argument relations. For example, in Heather sings, Heather is the argument and sings is the predicate. The predicate-argument relation is symbolic, that is, both syntactic and semantic. Semantically a predicate is relational, that is, inherently relates to one or more additional concepts. In Heather sings, singing inherently involves a singer. The semantic arguments of a predicate are the concepts to which the predicate relates, in this case, Heather. Syntactically, a predicate requires a certain number of arguments in specific grammatical functions to it: sing requires an argument in the subject grammatical function. And syntactically, arguments are related to the predicate by a grammatical function: in this c ase, Heather is the subject of sings. —  William Croft and D. Alan Cruse, Cognitive Linguistics  (2004)ExceptionsNote the unusual behavior of the verb rain, which neither requires nor permits any arguments at all, except for the dummy subject it,  as in Its raining. This verb arguably has a valency of zero. —  R.K. Trask, Language and Linguistics: The Key Concepts  Ã‚  (2007)Conflicts Between Constructional Meaning and Lexical MeaningIn cognitive linguistics, it is generally assumed that grammatical constructions are carriers of meaning independent of the lexical items they contain. The lexical items used in a construction, especially the meanings of the verb and its argument structure, have to be fitted into the construction frame, but there are cases where a conflict between constructional meaning and lexical meaning arises. Two interpretive strategies emerge in such cases: Either the utterance is rejected as uninterpretable (semantically anomalous) or the semantic and/or syntactic conflict is resolved by a meaning shift or coercion. In general, the construction imposes its meaning on the verb meaning. For example, the ditransitive construction in English exemplified in Mary gave Bill the ball is in semantic and syntactic conflict with the syntax and meaning of the ditransitive construction. The resolution of this conflict consists in a semantic shift: the basically transitive verb kick is construed ditransitively and coerced into the interpretation cause to receive by means of hitting with the foot. This meaning shift is possible because there are an independently motivated conceptual metonymy  means of action for action that makes the intended interpretation available to the hearer even if he or she has never before encountered the use of kick in the ditransitive construction.  Klaus-Uwe Panther and Linda L. Thornburg, The Oxford Handbook of Cognitive Linguistics (2007)

Taxpayer Cost for Political Conventions

American taxpayers help pay for the political conventions held every four years by both the Republican and Democratic national committees. The conventions cost tens of millions of dollars and are put on even though there have been no brokered conventions and every presidential nominee in modern history has been chosen well beforehand. Taxpayers directly contributed $18,248,300 million to the Republican and Democratic national committees, or a total of $36.5 million, to hold their presidential nominating conventions for the 2012 election. They gave similar amounts to the parties in 2008. In addition, Congress set aside $50 million for security at each of the party conventions in 2012, for a total of $100 million. The total cost to taxpayers of the two national party conventions in 2012 exceeded $136 million. Corporations and unions also help cover the cost of the conventions. The cost of holding the political conventions, though, has come under intense scrutiny because of the nations growing national debt and annual deficits. Republican U.S. Sen. Tom Coburn of Oklahoma has referred to the political conventions as mere summertime parties and called on Congress to end taxpayer subsidies for them. The $15.6 trillion debt cannot be eliminated overnight, Coburn said in June 2012. But eliminating taxpayer subsidies for political conventions will show strong leadership to getting our budget crisis in control. Where the Money Comes From The taxpayer subsidies for political conventions come through the Presidential Election Campaign Fund. The account is funded by taxpayers who choose to contribute $3 to it by checking a box on the federal income tax returns. About 33 million taxpayers contribute to the fund every year, according to the Federal Election Commission. The amount each party receives from the Presidential Election Campaign Fund to cover convention costs is a fixed amount index to inflation, according to the FEC. The federal subsidies cover a smaller portion of the political convention costs. In 1980, the public subsidies paid for nearly 95 percent of the convention costs, according to the Congressional Sunset Caucus, whose goal is to uncover and eliminate government waste. By 2008, however, the Presidential Election Campaign Fund covered only 23 percent of the political convention costs. Taxpayer Contributions to Political Conventions Here is a list of how much each major party was given in taxpayer subsidies to hold their political conventions since 1976, according to FEC records: 2012 – $18,248,3002008 – $16,820,7602004 – $14,924,0002000 – $13,512,0001996 – $12,364,0001992 – $11,048,0001988 – $9,220,0001984 – $8,080,0001980 – $4,416,0001976 – $2,182,000 How the Money is Spent The money is used to pay for entertainment, catering, transportation, hotel costs, â€Å"production of candidate biographical films,† and a variety of other expenses. There are few rules on how money from the Presidential Election Campaign Fund is spent. Federal law places relatively few restrictions on how PECF convention funds are spent, as long as purchases are lawful and are used to defray expenses incurred with respect to a presidential nominating convention, the Congressional Research Service wrote in 2011. By accepting the money the parties do agree, however, to spending limits and the filing of public disclosure reports to the FEC. Spending Examples Here is some example of how money is spent by the Republican and Democratic parties on political conventions in 2008, according to Coburns office: Republican National Convention Committee: $2,313,750 – Payroll$885,279 – Lodging$679,110 – Catering$437,485 – Airfare$53,805 – Film production$13,864 – Banners$6,209 – Promotional items - gift bags$4,951 – Photography services$3,953 – Floral arrangement for convention$3,369 – Communications consultant Democratic National Convention Committee: $3,732,494 – Salaries$955,951 – Travel$942,629 – Catering$374,598 – Political consulting fees$288,561 – Production music$140,560 – Production: Podium$49,122 – Photography$14,494 – Gifts/trinkets$3,320 – Makeup artist consultant$2,500 – Entertainment Criticism of Political Convention Costs Several members of Congress including Coburn and U.S. Rep. Tom Cole, a Republican from Oklahoma, have introduced bills that would end taxpayer subsidies of political conventions. The major parties are more than capable of funding their own national conventions through private contributions, which already generate over three times the amount the federal grants provide for this purpose alone, the Sunset Caucus wrote in 2012. Others have pointed out what they call the hypocrisy in congressional criticism of the General Services Administration for spending $822,751 on a team building meeting in Las Vegas in 2012 and lack of scrutiny over political convention spending. In addition, many critics of taxpayer subsidies for political conventions say the events are unnecessary. Both parties chose their nominees in the primaries and caucuses—even the Republicans, whose party implemented a little-noticed change in the primary system that lengthened the amount of time it took the eventual nominee to secure the 1,144 delegates necessary for the nomination in 2012.

The Genetics For Mongol Migration - 1050 Words

Maryann Steadman ANTH 3125 2014, October 11th Reflection Paper One Genetics for Mongol Migration Mongolia is located in-between Russia and China, and is a neighbor to Kazakhstan. The people that live there are called Mongols. Mongolia, which is part of Asia, is part of what composes Eurasia. When it comes to DNA and chromosomal lineage, there are many factors that lead to how a person will look, who they will mate with, and what decisions they make in that process. These categories all run under the term genetics. The second week’s lecture said that there are â€Å"three major types of genetic data.† There is autosomal, Y chromosome, and mitochondrial DNA. Autosomal is a combination of your mother and father’s DNA that makes you. Y chromosomes come from your father and are given to a son, and mitochondrial DNA comes from your mother. Everyone has the autosomal and mitochondrial aspects of genetics. The mitochondrial makeup is just what genes you got from your mother. However, only males have the Y chromosome aspect of genetics since males sex genes are comprised of XY while females are XX. Mongols (and their language of Mongolic) originally came from the Altai Mountains, which are near Mongolia (week lecture two). In the second week’s lecture it is also noted that Mongolia may have been the original location for starting Y chromosomal lineage. Telecommunication Deceptive Accounting System - MyAssignmenthelp

Question: Discuss about the Telecommunication Deceptive Accounting System. Answer: Introduction: World come between US based telecommunication company. The company was established in the year 1963. The company was among the second largest long distance provider in the United States. The company in the year 2003 went into liquidation. The main reason behind the bankruptcy of the company was because of inflation of profits worth $ 4 billions through deceptive accounting system adopted by the company. It has been proved that the chief financial officer of the company was engaged in improper recording of expenses as investment so as to inflate the profit numbers of the company which could attract the interest of the investors and shareholders towards the company. In the given case, WorldCom, a US telecommunications firm ,in June 2002, has misreported their financial information in the prior accounting years. A sum amounting to USD $ 3.9 bn has been reported as they are considered as capital expenditures in the books of accounts irrespective of its nature which is of routine operating expenses and hence relates to recurring revenue nature. As a result of this misrepresentation of the expenses in books of accounts the profits of the company has increased. Being the revenue nature expenditure has not been charged to profit and loss account as they are recorded as capital expenditure, the profits for the year has increased. On the other hand been the same was treated as capital expenditure for the US telecommunication firm so it was also made eligible for depreciation in the financial statement which in turn has reduced the profit but overall the profit numbers of the US telecommunication has increased for the year. In the given situation the fin ancial performance of the company improve along with its financial position. This can be well understood through the help of an example. In the above case world com has transferred a recurring expense of 3.9 billion dollars as capital expenditure. As a result of the section the profits of a company get increased by 3.9 billion dollars. Being the capital expenditure of the company has increased by 3.9 million dollars, it is assumed that the same is added to the gross block of fixed asset whose rate of depreciation is 15%. In this scenario, the company will charge depreciation on the amount that has been transferred to the capital expenditure head. Thus, 0.59 billion dollars ($3.9 bn *15%) will be charged to profit and loss account. Thus overall, the company saved $3.31 billion dollars from getting charged to the profit and loss account of the company. This has inflated the profit numbers of the company. In case of world com it has been proved that the chief financial officer of the company has made some manipulation worth 4 billion dollars to inflate the profit numbers of the company. This change in accounting policy of the company has been done by the management with an intention to hide the actual financial position of the company from the shareholders and stakeholders of the company. The management transferred the expenses amount to investment head to manipulate the profit numbers. Thus, overall we change has been done to cheat the investors and stakeholders of the company. From the miss representation that has been taken place by the management of worldcom company has impacted the shareholders and stakeholders of the company. In the given case, the company has been engaged in the business of sale of antivirus software during the financial year the company has made a sale of $25,000,000 from the sale of software, $3,000,000 from update downloads and $50,000 as interest income from investing on the short-term money market. The company has also received $2,000 discount on account of early settlement of a liability. The Company during the financial year has issued shares worth $500,000. Out of the above transactions, All the transactions which has been provided in the case, may ultimately will lead to generation of net income. All these transactions are required for generation of net income but directly they cannot be termed as net income for the company. Out of the four heads which has meet out the definition of income for the company, the transaction related to sale of anti-virus software and software upgrade will be covered in the definition of revenue generation activities for the company. Being, the core business of the company is to set antivirus software so any activity which has a direct relation could this core business activity will be covered in the definition of revenue generation activity for the company. The format of the income statement is generally fixed however certain open line items are being kept for the companies keeping in mind the nature and complexity that me sometime arise which may require the management of the companies to make change in the format of the income statement. However it is not very easy for the regulator to make a change in the format of the financial statements. There are number of factors which may influence the format and content of the income statement. Income statement of a company should provide a clear view to the stakeholders and shareholders of a company which is important for the decision making in relation to investment in the company. Thus, any change which is required in relation to providing any further information to the stakeholders and shareholders of a company is welcomed and may let to change in the format. Any change which is required by law or by statute may also let to change in the format of the income statement. Further, you can change any format is required for better presentation of the numbers in the financial statements can also be accepted and may lead to change in the format. In the current scenario for the purpose of comparison between companies globally it is very important that the formats of financial statement between the companies are consistent. Result of this it is important that the accounting standards provide clear demarcation of the formats of financial statements for the companies. In this scenario if any change in the format has been projected by the international financial reporting standards then it is important for the other countries standards to adopt these changes in their format as well. However it is not always possible for setting that the changes that have been made in the international financial reporting standards are being accepted by the other countries. There are many different factors specially in the regulations of the country which should be in line with the International financial reporting standards before accepting the changes in the format of the financial statements of the companies. In the scenario the changes proposed that by the international community is not accepted or accepted with change by the regulator in the other countries. Considering all these points, it is accepted that any change in the format of the income statement can be done majorly with an intention to provide better information to the users of the financial statements of the company. Better presentation and understanding of the financial statements are the core reasons which may increase the probability of making changes in the format of the statements. Bibliography Anon., 2005. The building is a heritage as it was erected even before the city won the bid for conducting the Olympic Games. The building has modern architectural design as the floor of the stadium can be moved and the pools were equipped with innovative cameras. Macroeconomics Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Macroeconomics - Research Paper Example Demand for goods and services are related to the real interest rate which is nominal interest rate minus expected inflation, whereas nominal interest rate is the market rate quoted in the financial pages of the newspaper. In this case, interest rate is almost zero that means nominal interest should be equal to expected inflation and the expected inflation is about 2% per year which is justifiable, it indicates that nominal interest rate showing unacceptable growth, adequate amount of rise in the nominal interest rate can increase the real interest rate to a desirable level. Usually when interest rate falls, borrowing increasing and individual’s purchasing power increases and so does the demand for goods and services, but if unemployment is very high and an economy is facing low GDP growth per year than shows the imbalance in the economy. According to the Philips curve, wages increases rapidly when unemployment is low and wages increases slowly when unemployment is low therefor e the government and the firms should raise wage rate to attract scarce workforce to increase the national production which will eventually increase the demands for produced goods and services. According to Okun’s law, a percentage increase in unemployment causes a 2% fall in real GDP, whereas in this case unemployment is very high, which is one the major reason of GDP downfall (Hall, 2011). Currently inflation is not matching the level of employment and GDP rate, therefore Fed and the government should increase the wage rate and decrease income tax rate to an acceptable level to encourage the spending which might result in increased demands for good and services and will eventually increase the national production, the government should also increase the subsidize the national production and increase import duty so national products will be preferred over international products (Hall, 2011). Conclusion By increasing nominal interest rate with a justifiable amount, by leverag ing wage rates and the local production, and by increasing import duty; the Fed and the government will be able to stabilize the economy and the balance of payment, the economy will grow at justifiable rate, the unemployment will decrease and the national production will increase while maintaining the inflation rate of about 2% which is quite justifiable. Part 2: Introduction Amendments in legislation and regulations were not the only causes of 2008 financial crises, changes in monetary and fiscal policy also contributed to the crises. The Federal Reserve dropped its federal funds rate very quickly to a very low rate, and kept the rate at historic lows for an extended period of time. Secondly the US deficit has increased its borrowing from foreign sources, especially from emerging countries such as China which are enjoying economic surplus. Contribution of monitory and fiscal policy in the causes of financial crises To eliminate the effect of the collapse of the technology equity bu bble and the terrorist attack on Twin Tower on September 11, 2001 on the economy; Fed chairman Greenspan injected low-interest rates below held guidelines which was an attempt to instill huge amount of liquidity in the US monetary system which actually resulted in lowering the interest rate by 2003 to 1%, the decided interest rate by Fed breaks the record of fifty years, that

Construction Industry in the UK Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Construction Industry in the UK - Essay Example Issues discussed include the condition of the industry and where it needs to go from here. In the end some recommendations such as, the government trying to stabilise the economy will help the industry prosper in the upcoming future, the industry focusing on not only building structures but diversification and more research and development. The theme that I have chosen from the leadership module is communication. Communication is the process through which we can assign and convey meaning to create shared understanding. It is basically exchange of thoughts and ideas from one person to another. The built environment/construction industry sector is a vital part of our economy. Human beings need houses to live in and that need to be built or constructed. Houses or structures have evolved through time. Today the structure of a building is more contemporary than. The industry is divided into three main sectors: the construction of building, heavy and civil engineering construction contractors and specialty trade contractors. The construction industry in the UK is quite large; it employs 2.2 million people and is Britain's largest industry. The industry is quite dangerous to work inn because of the large number of accidents that take place in the working environment. The industry accounts for 5 per cent of the UK GVA i.e. Gross Value Added. UK has the second highest level of construction value added per capita. The industry is worth 65 billion per annum and its total output in 2002 was 81.9 billion. It comes in the top ten construction industries in the world. The industry is skewed towards small firms, but these firms contribute a small share to the output and employment of people. Apart from all of this, the construction industry in any part of the world not only UK, is highly dependent on the business cycle. Any change in the environment affects the industry and decisions related to the industry. Thus, the better the economy is doing the better the environment for the construction industry to thrive in. Aims/Objective In this paper we will discuss the construction industry and we will see how the communication theme of the module affects the industry. Also, communication is a vital part of any industry or business environment, we will see the part that it plays in this particular industry. Literature Review The name of the literature is mentioned in the bibliography, but I will give a brief overview of all the literature that I went through in this section. According to the Fatal statistics released by Health and Safety Executive (HSE) for 2006/07 show there was a 28% increase in the number of fatal accidents to workers in the construction industry. Tragically 77 workers lost their lives in construction up from 60 in 2005/06, which was the lowest figure on record. (HSE Construction: Live Issues). Thus there are many health hazards in the industry. Corruption is also an issue even though the people involved in the sector have differing views about it making the problem very complex. A council has been developed to represent the professional bodies, research organisations and specialist business associations within this industry. This council is the Construction Industry Council (CIC). Internet has made a profound impact on the business communication in the construction industry. Free flows of information, open collaboration and diminishing international

Black Boy :: essays research papers

The Crying of Lot 49 In a story as confusing and ambiguous as Thomas Pynchon’s The Crying of Lot 49, it is difficult to connect any aspect of the book to a piece of modern culture. However, Oedipa’s quest, her search for the truth, and the paranoia therein, are inherent in the plots of today’s most-watched television and movies. Though many themes from the story can be tied to modern culture, perhaps the most prominent is the theme of a quest for truth. Oedipa’s quest is best represented via a popular FOX television show called The X-Files.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  At first sight, the comparison is almost too obvious. Agent Fox Mulder, played by David Duchovny, seeks the truth behind the apparent mystery of alien abduction and the supernatural, a quest that he dubs â€Å"the X-Files†. Oedipa, too, is looking for the truth underneath her mystery: WASTE. Both characters yearn for the truth behind events, a truth that may or may not exist, in mysteries that fold plots upon themselves endlessly. Beyond the obvious similarities, however, lie more, almost uncanny, parallels.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Though both Mulder and Oedipa claim to seek the truth, what they both seek is resolution to the questions within themselves. For example, it is understood by fans of The X-Files that Mulder began his search for extraterrestrial life with the supposed alien abduction of his sister. The quest for the truth, then, is personalized for Agent Mulder, as he himself claims that he would not work as an FBI agent if his sister had not been [supposedly] abducted. Oedipa is on a personal quest as well. No other character in the story seeks the â€Å"truth† behind WASTE, the muted courier’s horn, the play The Courier’s Tragedy, Pierce Inverarity’s stamps, and a secret postal service. In fact, no one else has ever before made such a [possibly ridiculous] connection! So, as both characters seek their personal truths, they slowly begin to fear that no answer exists.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The motives of these two seekers are important, and indeed similar. There seems to be an obsession to find a truth in symbols (be they horns or crop circles), a truth that both characters come to realize may not even exist. By definition, obsession is â€Å"a persistent disturbing preoccupation with an often unreasonable idea or feeling†. Therefore, the moment that their questions are absolved, the moment that their hypotheses are proved, the quest and its subsequent paranoia, frustration, and pain are removed.

Multicultural nature of the American nation Essay

In an in-depth interview with a subject of Japanese origin (twenty years old, living in the U. S. for three years) the differences between Western and Far-East cultures became evident. Given the multicultural nature of the American nation, the subject has not encountered any direct discrimination or intolerance; however, she had problems with adjusting to cultural norms and everyday lifestyle of Americans. In college, the subject was respected for her academic achievements, honesty, and desire to help. Unfortunately, she was unable to integrate fully in the social life of her classmates. She had problems making nodding acquaintance and starting small talks. At the same time, she truly treasured friendship and was spending long hours talking to her friends back in Japan on a messenger. This can be explained by the fact that Japanese society favors long-term orientation. Another problem with social integration was that the subject was not perceived as a party person. She was very anxious about breaking camp or traffic rules and preferred not to drink alcohol. Although the general attitude towards her was friendly, she could not develop a feeling of belonging. As concerns private life, the subject has only dated persons from her own cultural background (i. e. preferably Japanese but Asian in general). This can be attributed to the subject’s views on the role of woman in the society: Japan is a country where traditional masculine dominance is still preserved. Therefore, the subject is looking for stability and protection from the side of her partners, and few young American mean are able to deliver this, in her opinion. Therefore, it is possible to conclude that persons from other cultures encounter difficulties in the process of integrating in the American society.

The Police And Criminal Justice System - 2326 Words

Lawmakers and criminal justice personnel are meant to be guarded against prejudiced laws, policies and practices and to enforce equal and effective protection of the law to everyone (Findlay, Odgers and Yeo, 1994). However, if justice is indeed blind, why is it that police are relentlessly targeting Aboriginal people and why are they severely overrepresented in the criminal justice system of Australia? The disconcerting truth is that racial policing does happen in our criminal justice system. This paper accentuates how certain groups in society such as the Aboriginals or indigenous people have been discriminated against somehow or another by the police or by the criminal justice system itself; particularly directed towards the issues of overrepresentation, over-policing, and under-policing. The overrepresentation of Aboriginal people due to racial discrimination is a very real existence. It occurs in every aspect of life where one group has more authority than the other. The main issue where inequality and discrimination is widely apparent in Australia is the rapport between the criminal justice system and Aboriginal people. There is an obvious inequality between the different groups in our society. Looking at policing is vital as the police play an exceptionally prominent role in the lives of Aboriginal people in the justice system.
